A few friends and family members decided to make a book club! We had our first meeting to discuss the AMAZING book, The Night Circus.
The book is by the amazing Erin Morgenstern and if you have not read it yet, I highly recommend it! Here is the synopsis :
“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart”
The book is almost tangible in its descriptions. Whether it be: a midnight secret dinner filled with fantastical exotic foods, magic, romance, dreams and fate, opulent and imaginative clocks, this book transports you to a dark and mysterious circus where there is true magic.
For our book club we all dressed up in the colors of the book, red and black! We also had an amazing dinner that was provided by everyone in the group
Carmel popcorn, wine, vegetable cinnamon stew over Couscous, hot cider, roasted tomato dip, mango garbanzo bean salad with a lemon curry dressing and caramelized garlic tart!
The food and discussion was fantastic! We also had a great red velvet cake made to look like a circus tent! It was perfect!
We discussed our dream cast for the movie adaptation, which we all wish would be done by TIm Burton. After all red black and white are his colors! 🙂 We also did a few tarot readings due to the fact that the circus has a tarot reading section. We really went all out and I expect we will keep doing these themed book club meetings!
Our next book we are reading is called
“Oh la la, quelle surprise, and zut alors! A delectable confection of intrigue, passion, and art history – with cancan girls, baguettes, and fine French cognac thrown in for good measure – Sacre Bleu is another masterpiece of wit and wonder from the one, the only, Christopher Moore.”
So expect blue attire and french food next! 🙂
